Shortly after graduating with a degree in Business Administration, I joined a Dutch start-up.  There are numerous blogs and articles written about the value of having experience in a start-up so, in my case, I decided to join a new innovative design agency.  The message from my new employers was simple: “make us profitable.”  While most of my fellow classmates were starting their careers plugging numbers at high profile consulting agencies, financial or accounting firms, I was making decisions on whether we invest in new product development or spend scarce resources attending a fair to showcase our products.  Looking back,…
